What to do During the Overwhelming Power Outage
It can be quite overwhelming being a mom and it is no wonder that many blogs cover topics regarding moms. Just like there is no guidebook to help you along, there is no shortage of responsibility as the role of a mom transcends almost every sub-category there is from cleaning the house to washing clothes, dropping kids to schools to the underpaid chef. You now agree that being a mom is stressful not to forget the kind of stress that they can experience when there is a blackout.
Blackouts can be a thing, most last for hours while others could go for days which is why you need to be prepared. Here is how.
While batteries are essential; they will not help you make the transition from being a mom to a blackout mom easily. It is here that the generator guide comes in handy. A generator may not be able to power your entire house, but it could power your fridge freezer, the microwave, a few lights, the heater, and a few lights for up to six hours. You don’t have to panic with a generator in place.
This is not to say that you will need to stock your underground bunker with canned food, but you can make your cooking easy by selecting non-perishable and ready-to-eat foods. The only thing that your family need to remain comfortable is heat and food, so the next time you go grocery shopping, be sure to but enough canned food for your entire kitchen shelf. Buy canned meat, vegetables, instant coffee, beans, soups and anything else that you can think of including fun stuff like dips, chips and chocolate.
There is nothing that can be as romantic as the allure of a house lit with candles with the raging storms outside. It is, however, unrealistic, inefficient and hazardous as many house fires are started by candles lit during blackouts. Instead, you can select flashlights and camping lanterns and several batteries. As long as you have them hidden in a place that is practical, then you are fine. If you have light then you have a chance for some fun, whether it is reading, playing board games or a game of hide and seek.
Be sure to Cozy Up
If the heating goes then your home stops becoming the chipper place it once was. It is for this reason that you need to have extra blankets and quilts so that you can all snuggle when the nights get cold. If you can find sleeping bags in your garage, then grab them too; anything that will hold the cold at bay is going to be a big morale booster.
